Camp Facilities

WHRF worked in collaboration with ten partnering children’s health organizations to design every aspect of the expanded facility, to ensure the camp would meet the needs unique to the special guests we serve. The completion of Phase I construction in September 2005 marked the beginning of overnight camp and retreats for even the most severely challenged individuals.

This beautiful mountain sanctuary accommodates up to 126 children, caregivers and medical personnel per camp or retreat session.

The facility incudes:
  • 10 camper cabins with special design features such as wheelchair recharging stations, drains to accommodate dialysis, specially designed restrooms and more
  • the Virgina G. Piper Wellness and Retreat Center where medical personnel accompanying children to camp attend to their medical needs
  • the Nina Mason Pulliam Discovery Trail with interactive learning centers
  • the APS Learning and Discovery Ramada with full commercial kitchen and area for dining and activities
  • the fully-enclosed Dorrance Family and Geneva Fund Riding Arena
  • Coming Summer 2012: The Agnes Varis Jazz-n-Jets Splash Zone
  • Coming Summer 2012: The Agnes Varis Center for Human-Animal Interaction
  • numerous activity areas including a sport court, sport field, and outdoor camping area with authentic teepees
  • an animal habitat and therapy center where individuals with special needs interact with the animal residents by way of animal assisted activities
