To bring the dream to life, Whispering Hope Ranch
Foundation partnered with numerous children's health organizations
(‘CHOs’—
including Arizona Kidney Foundation, Arizona Spina Bifida
Association, Craniofacial Foundation of Arizona, Crohn’s and Colitis
Foundation of America, Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona, Foundation
for Blind Children, Hemophilia Association and Southwest Autism
Research and Resource Center) and, in concert with ASU's
College of Design, The Weitz Company and architect, Studio MA, put a
plan in motion to expand and upgrade facilities to meet the needs
outlined by the charter member CHOs.
Whispering Hope Ranch is the only
facility in Arizona designed and built from the ground up especially
for individuals with challenges. Design elements meet or exceed
recommendations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Examples
include:
- Trails and walkways—barrier free, gently
sloping to maximize camper mobility
- Recharging stations for
wheelchairs
-
Wellness Retreat Center accommodates
services including chemotherapy, breathing treatments, feeding
tubes and injections
-
Camper cabins accommodate peritoneal
dialysis machines and other support
systems
