BOVINES:
Chili Bean is a Holstein cow that
was rescued when she was five hours old by a woman named
Patricia. Chili
Bean or “Chili” loved people and interacted with everyone in a
gentle healing way.
After eight years Patricia was not able to care for Chili and sent her to a
ranch in Colorado.
Chili became depressed and stopped eating so Patricia
contacted Whispering Hope Ranch and asked if Chili could become a
member of our family of animal friends. She is a delightful addition
and has become a favorite “greeter” of guests. Ferdinand is a
miniature Brahma steer who, after spending four years in a “petting
zoo”, was no longer wanted.
His future was “uncertain” had he not been welcomed at the
ranch. He knows that
people are his friends and loves being part of the group.
BUNNIES:
Cocoa
is a tiny miniature “house” rabbit that has a
disability that causes his teeth to grow an inch per month, making
it difficult for him to eat.
Ranch staff clip his teeth every week to keep him
healthy. Cocoa is very
loving and gets sooo excited when he knows it is play time with his
human friends!
Hairy Hare is a big beautiful angora bunny.
He was kept outdoors in a very small wire cage for two years… in
rain, snow, sleet hail and scorching sun without protection or the
ability to exercise his legs. Being angora, Hairy also has lots of
hair and requires grooming and brushing often. We were thrilled when
asked if he could come live at Whispering Hope Ranch and so was
Hairy! Roger
Rabbit, another angora,
was rescued from a home that could no longer care for him. He was
badly matted and kept in a wire cage far too small for him to
stretch out and exercise properly. Roger and Hairy recognized each
other as angora bunnies and instantly became friends. Everyone at
the ranch love to watch the fun and games Roger and Hairy play with
each other all day long. Jake, an adorable all
American rabbit, came from a home whose owner couldn’t keep him any
longer. She wanted Jake to live in bunny ‘haven’ with other rabbits
and called Whispering Hope Ranch. Within one week, Jake moved in
with his new best friend, Roger Rabbit. The very next week, Hairy
Hare, Roger Rabbit and Jake all kicked up their paws in hippity-hops
rolling out the welcome mat for a family of bunnies, Ben, Grace and their daughter Sandy. They arrived from
Phoenix with their own “condos” and
are enjoying the cooler temperatures at the ranch and meeting all
their new critter friends, including the chickens, goats, llamas and
neighboring pigs. The
rabbits are joyful additions to Whispering Hope Ranch. They delight everyone with
funny bunny antics.
BURROS and
MULES: Eeyore
is one of
the Whispering Hope Ranch favorites. (He is actually an angel
disguised as a burro!)
The Ranch was contacted about an “amazing donkey that could
not walk”. A creative
and strong group of wranglers lifted Eeyore into a trailer and
brought him to the ranch where he began walking a few days after his
arrival. Eeyore has been a miracle worker for many children with
autism as well as others in need. He has been described as a
“being who helps other beings”. Clarabell, and her son, Howdy Doody were given to
the Foundation by the owner of a country bar where patrons and
passersby were harassing them. Cuddles and Kisses are miniature donkeys that
love to be cuddled and kissed, especially by “special” people. When a ranch visitor who
has cerebral palsy wanted to touch and pet some of the animals,
Cuddles and Kisses recognized her wish and moved up to her
wheelchair and put their heads on the arm of the wheelchair allowing
her to try to pet them.
Because she had spacicity in her arms and hands she was
hitting the two little burros in the eyes, nose and face as she
tried to pet them. They
calmly stayed with her until she was able to quiet her hands and
stroke their woolly coats lovingly.
J.T. is a miniature
mule. He has a
miniature horse dad and miniature burro mom. He came from an older
gentleman who had a serious illness and had been mistreating J.
T. He now enjoys the
ranch and his “cousins” and is trusting of humans
again.
